What Is DBT

Dialectical Behavior Therapy is an evidence-based treatment that was originally created by Dr. Marsha Linehan at the University of Washington to treat adults with Borderline Personality Disorder. It is now indicated for individuals struggling with Substance Use Disorders, Bulimia, ADHD and is well-renowned as the treatment-of-choice for issues related to managing intense emotions.

Since its inception, it has been adapted to also treat children, adolescents and their caregivers or family members and couples.

BPD is characterized by:

  • frequent, intense and unmanageable emotions
  • impulsivity
  • identity issues
  • suicidality
  • anger management
  • non-suicidal self-injury
  • interpersonal difficulty

 

Our standard Comprehensive DBT Program includes: 

  • Weekly individual therapy (can be more than once per week, as indicated) 
  • Weekly skills training 
  • In-between sessions, brief skills phone coaching
  • Weekly team consultation meetings for the therapist

As needed services may include: 

Psychiatry, family meetings, parenting consultation, etc.
