Ren Haas (She/Her)
DBT Fellow
Ren is a master’s student in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness at New York University, where she is pursuing her passion for integrative mental health. She chose this program for its emphasis on holistic wellness alongside traditional counseling approaches. Ren believes that foundational lifestyle factors–such as sleep, nutrition, hydration, movement, and physical health–play a crucial role in emotional well-being.
Ren graduated summa cum laude from NYU with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and minors in Sociology and Creative Writing. She went on to join the Heart, Mind, Spirit, and the Globe research lab at Pace University, where she studied the impact of spirituality and forgiveness on coping with adverse childhood experiences and trauma.
Currently, Ren works at Four Winds Hospital as a Mental Health Worker at the adolescent and adult inpatient units, specializing in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). She has experience working with mood, personality, intellectual, and developmental disorders, and she specializes in working with emotion dysregulation and interpersonal relationships.
Ren is also a yoga teacher, so she deeply appreciates the mindfulness aspect of DBT. She teaches her clients to become more present with their emotional experiences, daily tasks, and thought patterns.
Through her research and education, she has found DBT to be the most effective treatment in that it teaches concrete skills that can be used daily to improve one’s life. Forming new habits takes time, and she is committed to working with individuals to promote gradual growth, and to accept non-linear change.
In her free time, Ren loves to make music, rock climb, and take trips upstate to hike and swim.
