Dr. Elizabeth “Lizzie” Ackerman (She/Her)

Post-doctoral Fellow

Elizabeth “Lizzie” Ackerman, PsyD, earned her doctorate in School-Clinical Psychology from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University and completed her pre-doctoral internship at Behavioral Associates in New York City. She received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Criminology & Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland in 2020.
Lizzie has trained and worked in a variety of mental health settings, including schools, foster care, community clinics, inpatient psychiatry, and private practice. She has primarily worked with children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing emotional and behavioral challenges, with particular experience supporting individuals navigating, anxiety, depression, trauma, and ADHD.

Lizzie takes an individualized, thoughtful, nonjudgmental, and compassionate approach to therapy. She draws from a range of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Her goal is to create a warm and empathic therapeutic environment where individuals feel safe, supported, and heard. She believes therapy is most effective when it is collaborative and strives to empower those she works with as they navigate life’s challenges, develop greater insight, and work toward meaningful change.

Born and raised in the D.C. area, Lizzie moved to New York for the bagels (or graduate school, depending on who you ask). Outside of work, she can be found discovering new books to read, asking to pet people’s dogs, and going to Broadway shows with friends.
