Therapist I LCSW

Licensed in NY, NJ, and CA #133636

Timothy Oh, LCSW, holds a Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work from Columbia University. At Columbia School of Social Work, Tim received extensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) under the supervision of Dr. Andre Ivanoff in her DBT Training and Lab program. Tim is also intensively trained in DBT through Behavioral Tech.
Tim began his career in New York as a clinician at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, working with their DBT-Linehan Board Certified Program™ and Intensive Adolescent and Family Program. In this role, he delivered adherent comprehensive DBT treatment that included individual therapy, group therapy for skills training, phone coaching, and weekly consultation with a multidisciplinary team. With the DBT team, Tim treated high-acuity clients struggling with chronic self-harm, suicidality, and significant challenges in emotion regulation. Tim also worked with the faculty practice, where he provided individual therapy for anxiety and mood-related disorders utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

In Los Angeles, Tim has worked in the intersection of trauma, addiction, and co-occurring disorders utilizing CBT for Relapse Prevention, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Brainspotting in addition to third-wave behavioral modalities. Tim has also provided group therapy on Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, grief and loss, interpersonal process, and hatha yoga.

Prior to joining BPS, Tim's experience spanned work with adults, adolescents, and families in community mental health, private practice, hospital outpatient, and IOP settings. Tim has also provided psychedelic harm reduction and crisis intervention at festivals, most notably with the Zendo Project of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS).

Tim's treatment approach is evidence and process-based. He works collaboratively to understand each individual’s unique, holistic experience in context and applies pragmatic, tailored interventions to support a workable path forward. Tim values openness, flexibility, connection, compassion, and the dialectical balance of humility and competence, which he tries to model with his clients as well as in everyday life. Tim incorporates elements of his personal practice in yoga, meditation, and spirituality to inform his therapeutic presence and clinical approach.

Outside of his work, Tim is chasing swells to surf, mountains to hike, trees to hug, and beats to dance to.
